K&K Productions Present “Some Dance Company” The work of eminent choreographer Mr. David Fernandez!

Producer Kimberly Giannelli and her assistant Kristin Draucker, with the help of the greater NYC dance  community (and hopefully YOU!) bid farewell to their dear friend David in a concert of his work to be presented at Manhattan Movement and Arts Center on Monday February 27th, 2012! Because we cant let him leave New York for London without a bang, the concert will feature dancing from the stars of New York City Ballet, American  Ballet Theater and the freelance dance comunity of New York. Solos, duets, trios and ensemble pieces will feature stars like Joaquin DeLuz, Amar Ramasar, Ask La Cour, Chase Finlay, Luciana Paris, Maria Riccetto, New Jersey Ballet and many more to be announced. With your contibitions we can provide Mr. Fernandez with a proper budget that will cover all production costs, host a post performance reception and share the thrilling and overwhelmingly entertaining work of “Some Dance Company!”

“WHITE SHIRT, BLACK TIE, BLACK PANTS-XXS”
The concept is to make a 20-minute film of my choreography “White Shirt, Black Tie, Black Pants” to the J.S Bach Brandenburg Concerto #5 in D Allegro, with sixteen young dancers 9-12 years of age. The film will be submitted to Lincoln Center Dance on Camera 2012 in a documentary format highlighting rehearsals, interviews with the dancers, teachers, directors and parents as well as shooting day and the final performance.

The Context:
The behind the scenes scoop including the preparation, rehearsal, and execution of the piece, revolves around the underlying theme of the collaborative effort of a group working toward a common goal.

The Collaboration:
I have cast the piece with young dancers from the schools where I teach, including The Scarsdale Ballet Studio where this choreography was created, The Joffrey Ballet School,  Westport’s Academy of Dance and selected students from The Dance Theatre of Harlem School.

Choreographer’s Aim:
After creating a successful film based on a similar inspiration performed by professional dancers, I wanted to explore the concept with young dancers.  In May 20I0, I did the piece for the Scarsdale Ballet Studio
end-of-the-year recital and the result was inspiring. I would like to make the XXS version in the Dance on Camera format and partner with the schools that have supported my own development and dreams, and in turn, enhance the experience for all the young participants. My wish is that this project could be useful not only for dancers or dance schools, but also by the general public as a source of inspiration and to learn about the benefits of a collaboration.

This will be our fourth collaboration. Previous works include “Le Corsair” with New York City Principal Dancers Joaquin de Luz and Ana Sophia Scheller, “Choreography for 2 Legs” with Caitlin Gilliland from the New York City Ballet and “White Shirt Black Tie Black Pants” with Luciana Paris from the American Ballet Theatre (ABT).
